A message about starting arguments, reaching agreement, and unification throughout all of God’s church!
I pray for agreement among all God's people. When all of God’s people come together, that is when the world will see that Christ is Lord. For it is written:
Father, I pray that all who believe in Me can be one. You are in Me and I am in You. I pray that they can also be one in Us. Then the world will believe that You sent Me. I have given them the glory that You gave Me. I gave them this glory so that they can be one, just as You and I are one. I will be in them, and You will be in Me. So they will be completely one. Then the world will know that You sent Me and that You loved them just as You loved Me.
John 17:21-23 ERV
My family in Christ, we should not be arguing, especially not over the meanings of certain words or using perfect language (2 Timothy 2:14-16). We should pray for the patience and understanding that Christ had (1 Peter 3:8). In this way, we can agree with each other, as Lord Jesus wants (Romans 15:5). We shouldn't let different ideas split us into different groups, denominations, or followings (Romans 16:17-18, I Corinthians 1:10-11). Those ideas are carnal [earthly] and come from selfish desires (1 Corinthians 3:3)! What faithful Christians do is turn their hearts to the Lord, and sacrifice for others (John 15:13, Matthew 3:8). Not only sacrificing one's own life if necessary, but also sacrificing time, money, and "getting-things-your-way."
When read prayerfully and faithfully, the Bible is a very effective tool God uses to communicate with His people. This can be very helpful when two or more members of the church are confused about His Teaching or His Will for us.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
II Timothy 3:16 NKJV
It is clear that although we know the Holy Bible is the Truth, some people will still not use Scripture in church discussion or Bible study sessions, only showing that their point is based on their own research and understanding. But Lord says:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
Proverbs 3:5 NKJV
True believers in Christ do not learn only from words on a page, we learn from the power of the Holy Spirit:
For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.
I Thessalonians 1:5 NKJV
Many people will cause arguments and debates by twisting the words in the Bible and teaching false things (1 Timothy 6:3-5). For example, Peter points out that some people twist Paul's letters to say that the gift of grace through faith in Jesus allows believers to sin freely and willingly then still receive God's kingdom, which is not what his letters say (2 Peter 3:9-18). God will judge these false people on the Day that He judges everyone (Jude 1:4, 2 Peter 2:3, Ecclesiastes 12:14). The Truth that we know is that those with faith in Jesus are made children of God, and the Holy Spirit in them gives love, peace, strength, patience, and self-control to kill their old sinful selves on the cross –starting a new life through Jesus Christ (1 John 2:1-7, 1 John 3:1-10, 1 Peter 1:13-23, 2 Peter 1:5-8, Romans 5:12-21, Matthew 5:16).
The One who knows what is on every person's heart knows our true intentions and deepest thoughts (Psalms 139:2, Proverbs 15:3 & 11, Luke 16:15). The Lord knows who this is written about:
Some people will teach what is false and will not agree with the true teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ. They will not accept the teaching that produces a life of devotion to God. They are proud of what they know, but they understand nothing. They are sick with a love for arguing and fighting about words. And that brings jealousy, quarrels, insults, and evil mistrust. They are always making trouble, because they are people whose thinking has been confused. They have lost their understanding of the Truth. They think that devotion to God is a way to get rich.
1 Timothy 6:3-5 ERV
Paul, guided by the Holy Spirit, writes this to God’s people:
The wrong things the sinful self does are clear: committing sexual sin, being morally bad, doing all kinds of shameful things, worshiping false gods, taking part in witchcraft, hating people, causing trouble, being jealous, angry or selfish, causing people to argue and divide into separate groups, being filled with envy, getting drunk, having wild parties, and doing other things like this. I warn you now as I warned you before: The people who do these things will not have a part in God’s kingdom. But the fruit that the Spirit produces in a person’s life is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these kinds of things. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their sinful self. They have given up their old selfish feelings and the evil things they wanted to do. We get our new life from the Spirit, so we should follow the Spirit. We must not feel proud and boast about ourselves. We must not cause trouble for each other or be jealous of each other.
Galatians 5:19-26 ERV
We should not be arguing online with each other or disputing each other, because this damages the faith of people who participate in the arguments, as well as the faith of people looking on or listening in! Remember that it says in God’s Word:
Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness.
II Timothy 2:14-16 NKJV
Also, isn't it true that if the Lord wishes to rebuke or correct one of His children, He will do so Himself in His own mysterious ways? We need not be so proud as to correct each other and think that our one message is better than our brother’s or sister’s. After all, we should all carry the same message of Truth, which is the Good News Gospel of Jesus Christ!
For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.
Proverbs 3:12 NKJV
The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way.
Psalms 25:9 NKJV
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.
Revelation 3:19 NKJV
When God does prove one of His people to be wrong [and He will expose everything], we should accept His punishment and not be stubborn or refuse correction. As it is written:
He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, Will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
Proverbs 29:1 NKJV
My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord , Nor detest His correction
Proverbs 3:11 NKJV
Please join me in reading and praying on these related readings from the Holy Bible:
The Lord is not being slow in doing what He promised—the way some people understand slowness. But God is being patient with you. He doesn’t want anyone to be lost. He wants everyone to change their ways and stop sinning. But the day when the Lord comes again will surprise everyone like the coming of a thief. The sky will disappear with a loud noise. Everything in the sky will be destroyed with fire. And the earth and everything in it will be burned up. Everything will be destroyed in this way. So what kind of people should you be? Your lives should be holy and devoted to God. You should be looking forward to the day of God, wanting more than anything else for it to come soon. When it comes, the sky will be destroyed with fire, and everything in the sky will melt with heat. But God made a promise to us. And we are waiting for what He promised—a new sky and a new earth. That will be the place where goodness lives. Dear friends, we are waiting for this to happen. So try as hard as you can to be without sin and without fault. Try to be at peace with God. Remember that we are saved because our Lord is patient. Our dear brother Paul told you that same thing when he wrote to you with the wisdom that God gave him. That’s what he says in all his letters when he writes about these things. There are parts of his letters that are hard to understand, and some people give a wrong meaning to them. These people are ignorant and weak in faith. They also give wrong meanings to the other Scriptures. But they are destroying themselves by doing that. Dear friends, you already know about this. So be careful. Don’t let these evil people lead you away by the wrong they do. Be careful that you do not fall from your strong faith. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Glory be to Him, now and forever! Amen.
2 Peter 3:9-18 ERV
Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are contentions among you.
I Corinthians 1:10-11 NKJV
So all of you should live together in peace. Try to understand each other. Love each other like brothers and sisters. Be kind and humble.
1 Peter 3:8 ERV
You are still not following the Spirit. You are jealous of each other, and you are always arguing with each other. This shows that you are still following your own selfish desires. You are acting like ordinary people of the world.
1 Corinthians 3:3 ERV
These people are like dirty spots among you—they bring shame to you in the special meals you share together. They eat with you and have no fear. They take care of only themselves. They are like clouds without rain. The wind blows them around. They are like trees that have no fruit at harvest time and are pulled out of the ground. So they are twice dead. Like the dirty foam on the wild waves in the sea, everyone can see the shameful things they do. They are like stars that wander in the sky. A place in the blackest darkness has been kept for them forever. Enoch, the seventh descendant from Adam, said this about these people: “Look, the Lord is coming with thousands and thousands of his holy angels to judge everyone. He will punish all those who are against him for all the evil they have done in their lack of respect for him. Yes, the Lord will punish all these sinners who don’t honor him. He will punish them for all the evil things they have said against him.” These people always complain and find wrong in others. They always do the evil things they want to do. They boast about themselves. The only reason they say good things about others is to get what they want. Dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ said would happen. They told you, “In the last times there will be people who laugh at God and do only what they want to do—things that are against God.” These are the people who divide you. They are not spiritual, because they don’t have the Spirit.
Jude 1:12-19 ERV
In the past there were false prophets among God’s people. It is the same now. You will have some false teachers in your group. They will teach things that are wrong—ideas that will cause people to be lost. And they will teach in a way that will be hard for you to see that they are wrong. They will even refuse to follow the Master who bought their freedom. And so they will quickly destroy themselves. Many people will follow them in the morally wrong things they do. And because of them, others will say bad things about the way of truth we follow. These false teachers only want your money. So they will use you by telling you things that are not true. But the judgment against these false teachers has been ready for a long time. And they will not escape God who will destroy them.
2 Peter 2:1-3 ERV
We don’t enjoy discipline when we get it. It is painful. But later, after we have learned our lesson from it, we will enjoy the peace that comes from doing what is right. You have become weak, so make yourselves strong again. Live in the right way so that you will be saved and your weakness will not cause you to be lost. Try to live in peace with everyone. And try to keep your lives free from sin. Anyone whose life is not holy will never see the Lord. Be careful that no one fails to get God’s grace. Be careful that no one loses their faith and becomes like a bitter weed growing among you. Someone like that can ruin your whole group.
Hebrews 12:11-15 ERV
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
John 15:13 NKJV
Brothers and sisters, please remember that if you disagree with or refuse to accept Scripture or a Verse from the Bible that is shared by a member of the body, you are not arguing with them, your argument is with God! No one can argue with or change the Word of the Lord. Please, let's pray on God's Word and seek the real Truth before we jump to defend our own agendas or ideas. Check out this Bible Study entry for more about being one church and unification of God's people! May the peace of Lord Jesus be with you always!
